Barbara Brown

Barbara is part of the derivatives and energy practice groups.  She negotiates master trading agreements for the purchase and sale of energy commodities, including natural gas, and electricity; master agreements for commodity derivatives and currency swap agreements; and guarantees, letters of credit and collateral support annexes securing all of such  transactions.  Barbara also negotiates agreements for the purchase and sale of renewable energy credits (RECs) and conducts risk analysis for participation in wholesale and retail energy-related RFPs.

Before joining SWA, Barbara was in private practice for six years, specializing in wills and estates, guardianship, and general contract law.  Prior to operating her own law office, Barbara served as in-house counsel at Siebel Systems, Inc. for two years, where she was responsible for drafting and negotiating a broad range of contracts including consulting, training, technical, independent contractor and other service related agreements.  Barbara was also of counsel for Bayer Corporation where she was responsible for drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts including licensing agreements, shipping contracts, sponsored research agreements and clinical research agreements.

Barbara has taught business and contract law at Suffolk University, Husson College and the University of Maine.
